Vendetta Sports Media continues their coverage of all UFC divisions in terms of prospects on the roster, this time coming at you with a Featherweight Division Prospects list. For the past decade, there have been three names atop the list of great Featherweight fighters: Jose Also, Conor McGregor, and Max Holloway (For my money, the G.O.A.T. at 145). Aldo is past his prime, which is odd to say, seeing that he is only 34. McGregor is spending his days at Lightweight, and Holloway is still very much in the mix. But we are looking for new blood, and I am going to give you three names to look out for in the future. If you want to check out our Bantamweight prospects, click here.
After earning a contract on Dana White’s Contenders Series, Sodiq Yusuff burst onto the scene in the UFC with a flashy TKO win over Suman Moktharian in December of 2018. Since his debut, he is 4-1, with his biggest win coming via decision over Andre Fili. His most recent outing, however, was a decision loss to Arnold Allen in April of this year. The Nigerian-born Yusuff has above average takedown defense, which will improve over time, but possesses dynamite in his hands. Half of his wins as a professional have come by way of KO/TKO. And at 28, he still has his best years ahead of him.
Speak of the devil.
There might not be a hotter fighter on this UFC Featherweight Prospects list than Arnold Allen. Currently riding an astounding 10 fight win streak and boasting an undefeated record in the UFC, Allen is on an absolute tear. His biggest wins in the UFC have come against the aforementioned Sodiq Yusuff and Gilbert Melendez. Allen is dangerous wherever the fight goes, owning 4 submission wins and 5 KO/TKO victories on his record. Fighting out of Montreal and team Tristar MMA, you know that he is going to get some of the best coaching in the entire world. Allen has all the potential in the world to be the next best Tristar fighter, and I see a massive fight on the horizon for “Allmighty.”
Maybe this is more of an appreciation selection for Max Holloway, but damn it, he deserves it. The man is arguably the greatest Featherweight fighter of all time! He defeated Jose Aldo TWICE, battered Brian Ortega, demolished Calvin Kattar for 25 minutes, and I don’t care what you say, he beat current champion Alexander Volkanovski. But consider this, Max Holloway won the championship in 2017… This man is only 31 years of age. His last fight against Kattar was arguably the best he’s looked in a very long time, and he didn’t even have his training camp in person! It was over Zoom! I add Holloway to my UFC Featherweight Prospects list because I am predicting future contenders who I can see winning the belt, and I predict Holloway will hold UFC gold in the future again.
Honorable Mention: Bryce Mitchell 14-0 #12 Age: 26
Giga Chikadze #10 Age: 32
Movsar Evloev 15-0 #13 Age: 27
