Tyler Shough 2025 Fantasy Football Profile

One of the most surprising picks of the 2025 NFL draft was Tyler Shough being picked at 40th overall by the New Orleans Saints. While picking a QB was in the plans for the Saints, no one thought it would be Shough and at No. 40 overall.

A lot of people thought Shedeur Sanders was the pick here until he dropped to the 5th round. Tyler Shough is in a great spot, with virtually little to no competition at the QB position, he could be primed to start day 1. Let’s check out Tyler Shough’s fantasy outlook for re-draft and dynasty leagues.

Re-Draft:

Shough, if he is starting, has some solid talent around him: Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed, and now Brandin Cooks is a nice little WR trio; Alvin Kamara will be beneficial in the receiving game for Shough to rack up easy passing yards; Juwan Johnson and Foster Moreau are decent TE options.

It will really depend on Shough or whoever the QB is. With how uncertain the QB competition is right now, I would only take a late-round flyer on Shough if the draft were today. If he were the for-sure starter in September, I think he could be a sneaky sleeper as a mid to late-round pick. In auction leagues, you should be able to get Shough for less than $10, and if he’s starting, that could be high upside.

Dynasty:

Rookie QBs are more valuable in Dynasty QBs, but I’m not sure if I’m entirely sold on Shough. I genuinely don’t know if he’s good or not and using a high pick on someone I’m not sure about, but he is in a great spot that could be a recipe for disaster. It could work out though, too. Another concern is that he will be 26 by October this year. This definitely hurts his fantasy value compared to QBs who are way younger.

JJ McCarthy is 22 and was drafted last year–he could play 4 years and would be as old as Shough in his rookie year. That doesn’t exactly inspire a ton of confidence. Despite the fact he could start, that doesn’t mean he’s necessarily good. He could be the lesser of evils and start short-term until they find a better option. The highest I would use is a late-round 2nd round pick in rookie drafts and that’s if there’s no one I like on the board. I may be wrong about that, but that’s just my honest opinion.
