Tyler Higbee Should Not Be Taken Seriously As A Fantasy Asset

I recently wrote my ‘Don’t Eat The Cheese’ column on the tight end position. I want to expand on one player because the hype is so laughable. You can’t find a site out there that doesn’t have Tyler Higbee outside the top 10 at the tight end position. I’ve seen some rankings where he cracks the top 5. This needs to stop immediately. Anything other than a rostering him as a backup for bye weeks makes zero sense.

People are jumping on the hype train because Higbee was actually great down the stretch of the 2019 season. In Higbee’s final 5 games, he went over 100 yards in 4 of them. The lone game he didn’t resulted in 84 yards and a touchdown. I’m here to tell you that it’s nonsense. Nothing more. A blind squirrel finding a nut.

Gerald Everett suffered a knee injury late in the season. From Week 12 on, Higbee was the lone solider. He didn’t have to share the tight end duties anymore. The stats with and without Everett on the field are drastic.

The Rams prefer to run the double tight end sets. Even when Higbee and Everett are both healthy, it would appear Higbee isn’t the lead guy either.

So let me get this straight. People are paying a premium price for Higbee based on the fact that the Rams real starter didn’t play when he went off last year. People are paying a premium price for a player who isn’t even the best tight end on his own roster? What are we doing here?

From Weeks 1-12, Higbee NEVER recorded more than 47 yards in a single game. Go ahead, you sign up for that. Sean McVay also came out and said he wants to get Gerald Everett more involved in the offense. Let’s also not forget that the Rams also drafted Brycen Hopkins in the 4th round. Probably gearing up for that chance that Everett or Higbee goes down. The Rams are telling you they want the tight end spot to be a timeshare. They want to utilize multiple tight ends.

We should also mention the fact that this Rams offense isn’t one you really want to be part of. Jared Goff stinks. Sean McVay has really done his best to hide the flaws of Goff. At the end of the day, he can only do so much. As defenses have started to figure out what McVay likes to do, Goff has regressed. A 22 touchdown to 16 interception ratio isn’t sexy. Nevertheless, if there is 22 touchdowns to go around, how many do you think Higbee is getting? He got 3 last year. The former Western Kentucky product will probably get 3 again this year.

If you draft Tyler Higbee high in fantasy or spend a lot of money on him, you’re an idiot. The rankers are so wrong on this it’s hilarious. Anything other than a bye week filler is already too much. Pass.
