Tyler Guyton Delivers Candid Remarks On His Rookie Season
Tyler Guyton didn’t sugarcoat anything—his rookie year was rough, and he owned every bit of it. In a season where the Cowboys once again fell short of expectations, Guyton’s struggles on the offensive line were a microcosm of a team that couldn’t put it all together in 2024. Despite being a rookie and battling injuries, he was still unimpressed with the job he did. Now, both he and the franchise are staring down a pivotal year, hoping that more accountability can translate into results.
The former TCU and Oklahoma tackle was a first-round pick in 2024 and had big shoes to fill. It’s hard to expect any to seamlessly jump in and produce the way Tyron Smith did for so long. After his departure for the Jets, the offensive line was destined to take a step back. But Guyton was only good for 15 appearances in 2024, 11 of which were starts. The 29th pick did not impress much during his playing time. However, he was more than aware of this and looking to make it a thing of the past:
“I didn’t do too good last year,” Guyton said, via Todd Archer of ESPN. “I want to do better. I want to be a guy that can be depended on.”
“I’m not going to make any excuses,” Guyton said. “I just didn’t play as good as I needed to last year. I’m coming with a different attitude this year to become a better player.”
“I just feel like I have a lot to prove, and I needed to work on things, and getting in here earlier was the way I was going to do it,” Guyton said.
Dallas took a noticeable step back in 2024. In part the play of the offensive line is to blame but their 7-10 record is alarming. Jerry Jones has invested considerably into this core group and they have their work cut out for them with the Eagles on top.
Tyler Guyton is not running from the criticism. Instead, he hit the ground running… literally… starting his offseason training earlier than most to make sure year two looks nothing like year one. If his work ethic matches his words, the Cowboys might just have something to build on in the trenches.
