Lost in all of the Mookie Betts craziness, the Twins were lopped into the trade. The Minnesota Twins acquired Kenta Maeda for Brusdar Graterol, another unnamed prospect, and the 67th pick in the MLB Draft. My question is why?
Talk about highway robbery. Jesus this is bad. I wasn’t a huge fan of Brusdar Graterol being in the Mookie Betts trade. That’s because it’s Mookie Betts. Now we’re talking about Kenta Maeda. The Dodgers got a flame thrower out of the pen who throws gas, a prospect, and a good draft pick for a swing guy. WTF is that?
This is crazy town. Somebody has to check on Thad Levine. They just gave the Dodgers the hardest throwing prospect they had in their system for a pitcher that went 10-8 with a 4.04 ERA. OH, and Maeda is 31 and only getting older. Each of the last three years, Maeda’s best ERA was 3.81. Why are you giving up that much for Kenta Maeda?
Say whatever you want about the Mookie Betts trade. This is crazy town. LA can use Graterol as a weapon out of the bullpen and already had plenty of starting pitching to replace Maeda. David Price has a much higher ceiling anyway. Add in the fact that LA collects another draft pick they can add to their farm or can use in a trade down the line to improve the club further.
This one is easy. There was no bigger loser than the Minnesota Twins in this semi 3-way trade. I don’t understand how the got fleeced so bad. I know the Twins were desperate for starting pitching, but this is insane. Behind Jose Berrios and Jake Odorizzi, Minnesota didn’t have reliable pitching. I guess Kenta Maeda provides that?
