Tristan Thompson Is Perfect For The Celtics

Are the Boston Celtics a championship caliber team? Most pundits will point to the lack of depth they have in their front court as the reason why Boston will fall short. Can the Celtics win a title with the group of Daniel Theis, Enes Kanter, and Robert Williams at the 5? I don’t really think Boston needs to go all out for another center, but what if there is a happy medium. Tristan Thompson is perfect for the Celtics and could be that one missing piece to Banner 18.

Tristan Thompson is a candidate to get bought out. Things are not going well in Cleveland. The Kevin Love saga is the epitome of Cleveland right now. Thompson carries a base salary of $15.33 million on the final year of his contract. I promise you, there isn’t a contender that can take on that salary in a trade without damaging the roster. Thompson more than likely is going to get bought out. Like Love, Thompson has also had spats with the team so his time in Cleveland is likely coming to an end.

Go ahead; here’s the trade machine. Thompson is getting bought out. Find me a trade to a contender that works. It doesn’t exist.

Thompson’s skill set is perfect for what this Celtics team needs. Set screens, rebound, and defend down low. That’s what Boston needs. Thompson sets good screens and rolls to the basket. He’s a nice compliment to Daniel Theis who isn’t a super physical player. I’m not sure you really want Daniel Theis starting playoff games. Say what you want about Thompson, but he was an important piece to that Cavs championship team.

Enes Kanter has been a great rebounder for Boston, but they need one more guy who can bang inside and grab boards. Thompson has always been a guy to scoop up extra possessions. The former University of Texas hooper is averaging 3.9 offensive rebounds per game. No more giving up extra possessions like a year ago.

More than anything, the C’s need a guy that can matchup with guys like Joel Embiid, Marc Gasol, and Giannis Antetokounmpo. No, Tristan Thompson is better than any of them, but he can pick up fouls and do his part defensively. Daniel Theis down low is a problem on the defensive end.

When the Cavs buyout Thompson, Danny Ainge needs to get on the phone and do everything he can to bring him in. I don’t care what you have to do. Let Kemba Walker give him a call. Tristan Thompson is perfect for Boston.
