Let me just get this out of the way now to start things out. We’re going to keep this one short and sweet because it hurts my heart. I used a rookie draft pick in fantasy on Trey Sanders after his true freshman year at Alabama. The fantasy gods hate me so only terrible things happened to him after that. The good news is I traded him in that same league for Chargers kicker Cameron Dicker so it’s not all bad?
Anywho, I’m quite sure you don’t care about my fantasy league but maybe will about the sad story attached here so let’s just get to the point now. Here is your 2025 NFL Draft profile on the TCU running back.
The story of Trey Sanders is really a tragic one to tell. His entire career basically got flushed down the toilet after a car accident while he was at Alabama. Prior to that, he was a highly ranked recruit while flashing serious potential to be a high end NFL running back. Highly doesn’t put it justice. He was as heralded as it gets in the recruiting world. This was a blue chip guy Bama got their hands on just like the many that came before him. It’s insane to me why more people don’t talk about this but the rest of this industry is trash so it’s predictable they swept it under the rug.
Let’s just go ahead and get this out of the way too. It’s safe to say this didn’t happen. The hope was that the further Sanders was away from the car wreck the more time there was to turn things around. It just never ever happened. It’s also weird that his best season was in 2021, which is almost right after the car wreck and things got worse and worse after that.
The worst part is TCU really didn’t have anyone to steal carries away. It just didn’t matter. It wasn’t like Sanders was making an impact but other guys were involved. He just couldn’t beat out whoever they had on the roster and that was like five different guys. Just a really bad sign. He had 13 carries for 46 yards on the entire season and those carries never mattered.
There really isn’t anything to say beyond that. It’s a case of a guy who seems to be permanently injured and the guy who had serious potential is never coming back.
This isn’t even meant to be rude, but I have an undrafted grade for Trey Sanders. It also feels unfair to say given that he feels like the JT Daniels medically retired realm rather than having a real chance to even be given an opportunity to make a team. He just (more than probably) might be permanently broken as sad as that is to say. Even if you wanted to dig into this, there’s almost nothing to watch.
