Things are going well for the Celtics and I feel like a kid in a candy store. I was ready for the worst this year but things look great. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are making leaps. Kemba Walker is proving to be a perfect fit. Gordon Hayward has recovered his magic. The bigs are holding up. Marcus Smart is the best glue guy ever. Things are going too well. The depth the Celtics have is off the charts. Tremont Waters is a nice cherry on top. Waters just won G-League player of the month for November. Who knew the G-League Maine Red Claws were tearing it up too!
My guy Tremont Waters is tearing it up! The G-League is the G-League. Whatever. Still, dropping 45 percent from downtown is legit. Hey, Pascal Siakam played in the G-League too. What if Waters is a legit point guard? He did have some brief NBA action and looked good. I think it’s possible that Waters is a gem.
Waters was taken in the 2nd round out of LSU in the 2019 NBA Draft. Waters averaged 15.9 points, 6.0 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game. He broke Ben Simmons’ assist record at LSU. Waters handles the ball well and passes well. He sort of reminds me of Rajon Rondo when he first got to the Celtics. He gets the ball to the right guy and handles it well. Waters could be a playmaker in the future.
The problem is the Celtics don’t have a place for him. If Waters is legit, where do they play him? Brad Wanamaker is a legit bench piece for this team. Carsen Edwards was also taken in the second round. Boston has no place for him but Waters looks like he can play. The Celtics have too many good players. What a great problem to have.
