I know you’re all wondering, who is Tre Ford and why should I care about him? Well, he was the quarterback for the Waterloo Warriors, a Canadian university, and he is on the radar of not only the entire CFL, but a few NFL teams as well. Pay attention to the name now, because he will most likely be part of a team’s NFL training camp roster come May.
Often times when looking at quarterbacks, people can get hooked on whether they’re “culture guys” or can change a franchise. Well, Ford is responsible for turning around the Waterloo Warriors Football program. In the two seasons before Tre Ford, and his twin brother Tyrell Ford, arrived at Waterloo the program was 0-16. When Ford got to Waterloo, the team went 15-15 and he had a very successful career, as in 2021 he won the Hec Crighton Trophy, which is the equivalent of the Heisman Trophy.
If a team is considering taking a guy in the very late rounds of the NFL draft or signing a quarterback as an undrafted free agent, that player needs something special. Whether it be that “it-factor,” or elite special tools, they need something to justify taking a shot and turn themselves into a low-risk high-reward type of player. Tre Ford has just that, his physical tools are off the charts good! Using his testing numbers from the University of Buffalo Pro Day, according to 3downnation.com, Ford ran a 4.45 40-yard dash, had a ten-foot five-inch broad jump, and a vertical jump of 36 inches. To put it simply, he’s an absolute athlete. There were not enough testing numbers to get a true Relative Athletic Score, but the numbers he did have were very impressive. He has an elite explosion grade, and his 40-yard dash has a 9.98/10 score. His vertical and broad jump numbers are 9.57 and 9.87 respectively.
According to Dave Naylor of TSN, it sounds like Ford will end up in an NFL camp this May.
Broad consensus from scouts who watched Tre Ford throw today that he will not be at a CFL camp in May. He appears to be the rare U Sports QB who will get a shot at the NFL first.

Now you know who Tre Ford is. Although he may not be a high-profile prospect, it sounds like he will be with an NFL team in May. I’m not sure if that’s through a late-round pick or as an undrafted free agent, his athleticism is up there with the best of the best. He’s a great culture guy and deserves a shot.
