Trae Young Quickly Becoming A Cancer

I can’t stand watching Trae Young play basketball. At first, it was amusing to watch the homeless man version of Steph Curry chuck up shots while laughing at the fact that Atlanta gave up the chance to draft Luka Doncic. Now it’s just an outright joke and getting to the point where I’m not sure I’d want Trae Young on my team.

Cancers can be defined as doing more harm than good regardless of the talent. Russell Westbrook is the perfect example. Somehow the Wizards added Westbrook and got worse replacing John Wall who didn’t play.

I’m not going to put Young on that level quite yet. The former Oklahoma product at least has the ability to shoot. However, I’m not sure you can ever win the big one with him either.

Young is off to a rough start through 14 games of the 2020-2021 NBA season. The Hawks point guard is shooting 39% from the floor and 29.5% from 3-point range. Small sample size, of course, but the efficiency numbers have gone down the toilet.

Young is already the worst defender in the league. You can run whoever offense on him all game long. Young looks small and not dynamic enough to overcome it. For this experiment to work, Young needs to shoot the ball like Steph Curry. The only difference is he can’t and is already smaller than Curry.

Curry also strikes fear in the opposition. He can pull up from the parking lot and often makes you pay when you double team. Teams have stuck Trae Young in their back pocket. I don’t see that killer instinct with Young. I see a little weasel who would lose a fight to Grayson Allen.

Trae Young is a little weasel. It’s hard to watch him play and root for him. These type of calls will go away if the guy ever gets into the postseason.

Atlanta is never going to build a real winner with Young as the centerpiece. Danilo Gallinari and Bogdan Bogdanovic are nice pieces. They don’t have a true second star on the roster. A lot of the young guns feel like complementary role players.

Show me the pathway to true contention for the Hawks? It sure as hell won’t happen if Trae Young shoots the ball the way he is this year. The Max extension hasn’t even kicked in yet. If Chris Paul couldn’t get his teams over the top, I don’t see how it’s possible for Young to do so.
