Tony Khan announces the first-ever AEW Continental Classic Tournament

AEW President Tony Khan is known for having a fondness for tournaments, but on the most recent episode of Collision, he announced the company’s biggest competition to date: The Continental Classic.

On the Nov. 11, 2023 edition of AEW Collision, Tony Khan had another one of his trademark announcements up his sleeve. While some of them have left a lot to be desired in the eyes of fans, this one was something that fans of All Elite Wrestling had been asking for for many years.

Khan announced the introduction of the Continental Classic tournament, a round-robin style competition similar to the famous G1 Climax held every year in New Japan Pro Wrestling. The tournament will feature 12 of AEW’s top stars competing in two groups of six, with the finals taking place at the World’s End pay-per-view on Dec. 30.

Not only did Khan announce the schedule for the tournament, but he also revealed that the first official competitor entered into the Continental Classic would be Bryan Danielson. The American Dragon recently broke his orbital bone during a match with Andrade El Idolo and was set to miss the rest of 2023 due to the injury.

However, it seems as if the former WWE Superstar will attempt to defeat the rest of the competition while wearing an eyepatch.

AEW President Tony Khan announced something else regarding Bryan Danielson:

Bryan Danielson seemed very excited to be a part of the AEW Continental Classic announcement, but that wasn’t all when it came to news involving The American Dragon.

Fans will recall that Bryan missed the All In event at Wembley Stadium after sustaining a broken arm at the Forbidden Door event in June. With the knowledge that Bryan also wants to wind down his full-time career in the next 12 months, fans have wondered if the former WWE Champion will be a part of the 2024 edition of All In.

It should come as a huge sigh of relief to fans around the world that Tony Khan announced that Danielson will be part of All In 2024, with the event being a featured part of Bryan’s final year as a full-time professional wrestler.
