Tom Brady continues to stay a busy man in his post-NFL career. After accepting a record-breaking deal with Fox to be a broadcaster, Brady has now submitted an offer to purchase a minority stake in the Raiders, Sports Illustrated NFL reporter Albert Breer reported Monday.
Breer cites that Brady must now await the league’s decision and indicates it won’t happen at the NFL’s spring meeting.
Brady is already a minority owner for the WNBA Las Vegas Aces, so I would be surprised if the league decides against letting Brady become a minority owner. Now Brady’s history with the NFL is a rather interesting one. Deflategate and his involvement with FTX could be potential roadblocks, but I seriously doubt those are enough for the league to prevent Brady from being a minority owner.
Brady has expressed a desire to be a minority owner in the past; when he was considering becoming a partner with the Dolphins, he was later planning on coming out of retirement and being a Miami Dolphin.
Now I think at this point this scenario is likely out the window. Brady, 45, already seemed to have found a comfortable life/career after football. On top of that, if Brady were to come back for a second time, I don’t think it will be to play for a bad Raiders team.
Now Tom Brady must sit and await the league’s decision. It’s still unclear exactly how much of a stake Brady will purchase. Obviously, I assume it would be for a smaller piece but for a one percent share, it would cost Tom Brady between $40-$60 million.
My question now becomes what happens with this previously mentioned Fox deal. Is he allowed to still be a broadcaster for Fox while being a minority owner of a team? I don’t see why he would knowingly walk away from that Fox contract, which makes me believe there is a little bit more to the story regarding these contracts.
I know Raiders fans have a rather complicated history with Tom Brady. But hey maybe he can now be the savior of your franchise after taking so much from you. But I think we all know that likely won’t be the case.
