T.J. Watt is the best player on the Pittsburgh Steelers and arguably the best defensive player in the NFL, along with Aaron Donald, Micah Parsons and Nick Bosa, among others.
The EDGE rusher has put up incredible stat lines with his high volume of sacks, and when Watt is healthy, he is always terrorizing opposing quarterbacks and making game-changing plays.
Watt, in his seventh NFL season, already has a great résumé as he has been selected to five Pro Bowls and has three First-Team All-Pro selections. This week, he added another great achievement to his résumé: Being the Pittsburgh Steelers’ all-time sack leader.
In Monday night’s matchup against the Cleveland Browns, Watt accounted for four tackles, two tackles-for-loss and one sack. That sack put Watt at a career total of 81.5 sacks, enough to pass the previous record holder, James Harrison, who won two Super Bowls and amassed 80.5 sacks as a Steeler.

One quick fact I found interesting while looking the the Steelers’ all-time sack list: Defensive lineman Cameron Heyward is third with 78.5 career sacks, so he is also close to passing Harrison.
Watt is an extremely talented player and he is one of the best defenders in the NFL. He deserves all the accolades he has and will continue to get, and it will be interesting to see how many sacks he will have by the end of his career if he’s already broken the franchise’s record in year seven.
It was clear T.J. Watt was going to be a special player from day one. He had a sack against the Cleveland Browns in his first NFL game in 2017 and finished his rookie year with seven sacks before improving to 13 sacks in his sophomore season.
Watt led the NFL in sacks in 2020 with 15 followed by a historically great defensive season in 2021, when he finished with a league-leading 21 tackles for loss and an amazing 22.5 sacks, tying Michael Strahan for most sacks in a single season.
Watt only played five games in 2022 but he did have a four-sack game against the Cleveland Browns. Now, in 2023 he is already leading the league in sacks through two games with four sacks.
Watt is an incredible player with plenty of football ahead of him, and Pittsburgh Steelers fans will love seeing him continue to rack up more sacks–which always seems to happen against the Cleveland Browns.
