The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2 –  What We Know and What We Want

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 was first announced at E3 in 2019, and has been delayed over the years that have followed.

The immediate hype suffered a dip back in 2020, until we had another look at what the game can present to us at E3 in 2021. In that showcase fans received an approximate release date, but it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see it delayed further.

In the teaser, fans got to see that the Hyrule  players left at the end of the first game has split into what appears to be floating islands.

If this is in fact the case then this might give us an idea on what the new gauntlet that attached itself to Link’s back in the first teaser in 2019 might be used for.

We can also see what seems to be a Beamos prototype in the works and multiple different types of old enemies (hopefully ranked by markings or something different from the coloured rankings in the 1st game).

There could also be updates to old enemy camps that were seen scattered across Hyrule and the types of bosses may have increased in variety, so to avoid repetition with regards to dealing with the same enemies over and over.

A broader variety of mechanics involved in defeating said enemies could work so that the original ‘smack n’ wack’ mechanic doesn’t prove too monotonous.

Shifting focus onto the dungeons that we may encounter on our journey, our first dungeon is most likely going to be the catacombs beneath Hyrule Castle, where we see what appears to be the remains of Ganondorf and where we obtain the previously mentioned gauntlet.

The other dungeons, if they exist, will likely involve some mechanics from the ‘Sheikah’ gauntlet just as the first game relied on the Sheikah Slate.

Here’s hoping Nintendo doesn’t make the same mistakes as they did with the divine beasts in the first game because it made them way to repetitive.

Hopefully the way it’s done is that once you complete the Hyrule catacombs dungeon (If it exists, this is all speculation) you get to choose 1 of 8 abilities for the Sheikah gauntlet which allows you to unlock a dungeon per different ability. So you have freedom to choose what dungeon to do first, much like Gods Will Fall, removing the limited feel to always having to do the same order of dungeons through every playthrough.

One mistake (personally) Nintendo made with Breath of the Wild is throwing the player straight into the story with little guidance as to what was to come. In any case, no matter how it turns out and as details continue to emerge, Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 will have fans hooked until, and likely beyond, its 2023 release.
