What a rollercoaster year it has been for Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman. I had him on my Stallions list before the season began, primed for a breakout year in 2024. However, we only saw glimpses of the player he can be this season, in what only can be described as a disappointing campaign this year. After declaring for the transfer portal, I believed he was destined for a lateral move to a big-time program.
However, On3.com reported today that Conner Weigman has transferred to Houston. This move, to me, is surprising as Houston finished at 4-8 a season ago and does not have a ton of talent on their roster. I do get the move, however, as transferring to a program with fewer expectations can yield larger results. But this feels very risky to me. What if it goes wrong? What if he also kind of stinks the joint up at Houston? The former five-star recruit would have minimal stock next to his name and not a lot of time to rectify it as he would have just one year of eligibility remaining. If he lights it up, however, he could be a really big name for the 2026 NFL Draft.
Conner Weigman to Houston just was not what I would have done. Granted, we don’t fully know what teams did come calling, but I really thought a team like Florida State would have been a very good fit. Indiana has a huge need for a QB, and I believe Coach Cig would have gotten the most out of Weigman. It is worth noting that the Houston campus is just 30 minutes from where Weigman’s hometown of Cypress, Texas. This is an unusual fit and one we should definitely be keeping an eye on in 2025.
