Tai Felton 2025 NFL Draft Profile

Is Tai Felton more than just a speed wide receiver? Is he even maybe the sleeper of the wide out class? Look, I’m running out of creative intros for these, but that’s essentially what we’re here to talk about, so I’m just going to start now. Here is your 2025 NFL Draft profile on the Maryland product.

Felton, 22, was a three star prospect coming out of high school. He was also ranked the 155th receiver and 28th ranked player in the state of Virginia. He spent all four years with the Terps but 2024 was really his pop year after being not a huge factor prior to that.

In 2023, Felton notched 48 receptions for 723 yards and six scores. Those numbers rose to 96 grabs for 1,124 yards and nine touchdowns this past year. Felton was also a team captain and was named First-team All-Big Ten in 2024.

I’ll say this. I hate the fact that there are two Felton’s in this draft with virtually the same play style. The other was at Virginia Tech. It was incredibly difficult to track who was who at the Combine and even the Senior Bowl. The big difference is this Felton runs faster. By faster, I mean way faster. A 4.37 is no joke. The leaping numbers were damn good too.

I will fully admit I didn’t watch as much Maryland this year as I normally do. Mostly because little Tagovailoa was gone and their QB play wasn’t exactly great. I wonder what Felton could have done at a bigger program with a real QB. Although, he’s not exactly physically imposing either way checking in at 6-foot-1, 183.

When you really dig in, I see a lot of damage done on screens. 33% of his receptions this past year were on screens. He’s a smaller guy, you want to get the ball in his hands to create YAC. For a guy who is really fast, I didn’t see a crazy amount of wins down the field. 11.7 yards per catch isn’t anything outrageous. I wish I had more to say on him at the Senior Bowl, but he just didn’t make a ton of those wow splash plays. 26 forced missed tackles is a nice number though.

The drops are probably the biggest problem. 8 drops last year, which is just way too many to take seriously. Especially when you’re only a two year starter with one eye popping season total. 39% contested catch rate isn’t good either and you can’t see it getting better with the lack of length in his frame.

Tai Felton is probably a 6th-7th round guy for me. There are some traits to like, but he’s probably a special teams gunner who can be a depth piece with plus speed.
