Tackle Trent Williams will be out ‘some time’ after Suffering high ankle sprain

Following the bizarre 11-10 loss for the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night, the team suffered yet another big loss. All-Pro Tackle Trent Williams has suffered a ‘high ankle sprain’ and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks, per head coach Kyle Shanahan.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network provided the news on Williams.

As Shanahan said, no surgery will be required for Williams. The team caught a break with that news. However, losing one of the best offensive linemen in the game is going to hurt. Especially after losing quarterback Trey Lance for the season, leading to Jimmy Garoppolo taking over.

The injury occurred in the third quarter when Williams was tripped up and fell to the ground right before a Garoppolo safety.

Williams stayed down on the field for a few minutes, visibly frustrated, until limping off the field on his own. He did not want to use the cart to leave the field.

Because of the estimated return of 4-6 weeks, Williams could return sometime between their Week 7 matchup with the Chiefs and Week 9 matchup against the Chargers. Either way, the 49ers are slowly breaking down, which even early in the season can dig a hole.

Williams, in season number three with the 49ers, is the lone offensive lineman from their NFC championship team in 2020. The team reached an agreement on a six-year, $138.06 million extension back in 2021. The deal has made Williams the highest-paid offensive lineman in the NFL.

Following the injury, the 2021 fifth-round pick Jaylon Moore came in as the replacement. Moore will lineup with fellow second-year player Aaron Brooks and rookie Spencer Burford on the offensive line alongside right tackle Mike McGlinchey and center Jake Brendel.

Although the 49ers remain in second place, a 1-2 record will be a challenge to bounce back on. The NFC West also includes the reigning Super Bowl Champs, the Los Angeles Rams.

By no means will this season be easy for the 49ers, but Garoppolo and the team have been magical before. Still, plenty of football left to heal up and push for a playoff seed.
