Steven Adams Will Miss Entire 2023-24 NBA Season After Knee Surgery

The Memphis Grizzlies are taking L’s before the season ever starts. Ja Morant is already suspended for the start of the 2023-24 NBA Season. Now Memphis will lose another player before opening night. Center Steven Adams will miss the entire upcoming season after undergoing knee surgery.

Our resident Grizz fan Jackson Law also commented on the injury news.

Adams, 30, is one of the best rebounding bigs in the entire league. A season ago, Adams averaged 11.5 rebounds per game. As Jackson iterated in his video, Adams has a trickle-down effect on the entire team. Adams allows Jaren Jackson Jr. to be the player he is. It’s a bigger loss than maybe the casual fan understands.

Adams is never going to be a good offensive player and he might be the worst free throw shooter in the league. The former first round pick by OKC converted just 36.4% of his free throws a season ago. An almost comically bad number. However, he still averaged 8.6 points and 2.3 assists per game in 2022-23. He can still score around the rim and is a better playmaker than he gets credit for.

Adams was referred to as a sleeper in fantasy basketball by our staff. I guess you can cross him off that list now.

It remains to be seen how Memphis will replace Adams. Does this mean for minutes for Kenny Lofton Jr.? Will the Grizz pursue the trade market?
