It’s safe to say Stephon Gilmore is ready to get after it. After being traded to the Dallas Cowboys, Gilmore will join an already stout defense. In particular, the former Defensive Player of the Year is looking forward to sharing the secondary with Trevon Diggs. Speaking to reporters today, the former Patriot and Colt had this to say:
“It’s going to be fun. …They’ve got to throw it somewhere. One of us is going to get tested. Just got to be able to make the plays when they come my way. …One of us is going to be making the play.”

At age 32, Gilmore still has plenty left in the tank. He may not be able to shut down one side of the field like he did in New England. But he still plays the position at a very high level. The former South Carolina Gamecock is only a year removed from a Pro Bowl with his hometown Panthers. It also broke his streak of four consecutive Pro Bowls from 2018-2021.
In 2022, he played in all but one game. He also defended 11 passes, made two interceptions, and completed 66 tackles. You could argue a weight will be put off of his shoulders in Dallas. On the other side of the field is one of the NFL’s best ball hawks in Diggs. The former Alabama man has caught 14 interceptions over the last two seasons. Furthermore, in front of Gilmore will be one of the NFL’s best defensive lines. The likes of Micah Parsons and Demarcus Lawrence already give quarterbacks nightmares.
Stephon Gilmore is already fitting right in with the Dallas Cowboys. You could even argue that he’s now the best #2 corner in the league. Despite coming up short in the playoffs, there is still plenty of talent on that team. When you talk about the league’s best defenses, you must include the Cowboys.
