Patriots cornerback is trilled that the team has signed Cam Newton. It’s the ultimate low risk – high reward move of the entire season. Gilmore was the captain of what was a pretty lights out Patriots defense in 2019. If Newton makes the offense more dangerous, New England is back to their scary self.
Gilmore talked about his thoughts on the Cam move:
“It was a great signing,” Gilmore told TheRinger.com. “I think Cam’s very hungry. I’ve always been a Cam fan. I think he’s hard to prepare against and he has a great opportunity to compete for a starting job. I’m looking forward to seeing him on our team.”
“He’s very hungry this year. I think he’s healthy now, so I’m just looking forward to him helping our team out,” Gilmore said.
I think Gilmore brings up the most important point of all. HUNGER! Does Cam Newton have the eye of the tiger? Nothing matters more than that. Forget the health, stats, or whatever else you want to bring up. Is Cam willing to buy into the program and does he have that killer mentality. Does that eye of the tiger exist? That’s the real question to this story.
Does any player have a wider range of outcomes than Cam Newton in 2020? Anything that happens with Newton or the Patriots this year would not surprise me. Regardless, the Patriots odds went way up because Jarrett Stidham doesn’t have to take the field. That alone should make Stephon Gilmore happy that Cam Newton is on his side. Only time will tell to see how this mairage goes.
