While the Philadelphia 76ers snapped a nine-game losing streak Saturday night against the red-hot Golden State Warriors, guard Stephen Curry recorded an unusual feat.
No, it wasn’t shattering any shooting record that he hadn’t already set. Instead, it was that he dunked. I know, at least 95 percent of NBA players can technically dunk. But for the greatest shooter ever, it was his first recorded dunk since the 2018-19 season–coming with over seven minutes left in transition.
Curry, who finished with 29 points and 13 assists across 36 minutes in the team’s seven-point loss, discussed the dunk after the game. The 36-year-old mentioned that it may be the last one we ever see from him in an NBA setting.
“That will probably be my last dunk,” he told reporters after the game, according to The Athletic’s Anthony Slater. “I’m calling it now. That was the last one you will see.”
Regardless of his ability to complete many in-game dunks at the latter stages of his current, Curry is still one of the best athletes in NBA History. His endurance, off-ball gravity and shooting ability is unparalleled and may never be replicated–no matter ho many times people try. Hey, sometimes you need an easy bucket here and there–and his dunk Saturday will be one of the easiest of his career.
The two-time scoring champ is still averaging 24.1 points on 44.7/39.6/93.3 shooting splits, looking rejuvenated since the Warriors acquired star forward Jimmy Butler. The Warriors are winners of seven of their last nine and are still hunting for a top-6 spot in the West with 22 games left in the 2024-25 season.
Do you think you will see another Stephen Curry dunk? Let us know in the comments!
