Stan Bowman Is The New Oilers GM

Jeff Jackson did a hell of a job this Summer. So much so that I’m surprised the Oilers didn’t just give him the gig. Even Connor McDavid complimented him. Instead, Edmonton will roll with a more established name who just got reinstated to start working again. Yes, Stan Bowman is back and he’s now in charge of the fighting McDavid’s.

Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet was the first to report the news:

Hearing the Edmonton Oilers will hire Stan Bowman as GM today…media conference to be held sometime this morning.

Bowman, 51, replaces Ken Holland who Edmonton just let his contract expire. Jackson is the one who made all the moves this Summer. Those moves included bringing in Viktor Arvidsson and Jeff Skinner. Bowman sounded appreciative that Jackson did his best before being brought into the front office.

“This is a tremendous opportunity and it’s one that I’m excited to be a part of,” Bowman said. “The guy to my left here (Oilers CEO of hockey operations Jeff Jackson) did a tremendous job this summer; he and his staff should be commended for the acquisitions and the additions to this team. It was already a strong group, and I think it’s even stronger now. 

“The chance to work with some special players, there is some generational talent on this team that I’ve had a chance to work with great players in the past and I’m so excited for what’s to come.” 

The Chicago Blackhawks Are Making Serious Changes After Investigation

Jeff Jackson also weighed in on the move who doesn’t appear bitter that he didn’t get the main job.

“Stan and I share a vision of about how to put together a team on the ice and also try to be an elite organization in the front office, forward thinking and progressive; we spent a lot of time talking about that and I feel very comfortable that our visions are aligned in that regard,” Jackson said.
