Spencer Petras 2025 NFL Draft Profile

Many of you may not have a single clue who Spencer Petras is. That’s totally okay because I do have a method to my madness here. Let’s get right to the 2025 NFL Draft profile here on the Utah State quarterback because there’s only one real reason we’re even diving into this.

Petras, 25, is a former three star guy out of the state of California. Played five years at Iowa before finishing up at Utah State. Was a pure backup his first two years and then got meaningful snaps at Iowa from 2020-22. Not to be that guy because you know me, I’m not a stat guy and think people who lean on them are foolish. However, they pretty much tell the story here.

The 6-foot-5 signal caller posted a 56.7% completion rate with Iowa combined with a 41-30 TD to INT ratio during his entire career with the Hawkeyes. It’s a story we’ve seen plenty of times. Big 10 quarterback who can’t move the ball a lick. Iowa has had plenty of those guys.

Now we’ll get to the point. I mostly dug into Petras because I want to know if it affected my opinion on Jalen Royals. Was Petras doing Royals favors or was Royals carrying him? It’s definitely the ladder. Royals had over a third of Petras’ total passing yards and it would have been more if his quarterback didn’t suck.

Petras notched 17 touchdowns and 11 picks with Utah State but if we’re being real, those numbers aren’t close to being good enough compared to being at an advanced age while playing inferior defenses. Oh, and having a capable receiver on your side. The more you really watch him, it makes you question if Royals deserves more love because Petras is beyond terrible. Guy can’t play a lick and it’s far too late for it to change.

Again, I don’t think anyone even has Petras on their radar. He’s an undrafted player for me and probably shouldn’t even be given a chance to get reps in the preseason either.
