Sophie Sucrée: Best Vegan Bakery in Montreal

Vegan desserts have recently been on the rise! Whether its for environmental reasons, ethical reasons, health reasons or anything else, switching to a plant-based diet has been gaining popularity these last few years. Many more delicious vegan spots have been opening up! 

One of the amazing spots that have opened up is Sophie Sucrée in Montreal. This bakery is fully vegan and sells sugary and savory baked goods.

Located in the heart of Plateau near McGill University, this spot is cheap and convenient for young vegan students looking for a sweet treat! This bakery is extremely inclusive with its treats, allowing everyone to try their delicious pastries! They have options that are gluten-friendly, soy-friendly, nut-friendly and more. They sell breakfast and pastries, cakes and cupcakes, cookies, bars, and tartelettes, but my favorite was the chocolate chip cookie!

The Chocolate Chip Cookie:

The cookie was dense and chewy. It had the perfect amount of sweetness that wasn’t overbearing. It remained sugary and delicious without the sugar overpowering the entire flavor. The chocolate chips were perfectly semi-sweet and flavorful. The cookie had a great bite that sat super well in my stomach. This vegan dessert was fresh and nourishing. Most cookies leave my stomach feeling heavy, however, this just felt fulfilling and refreshing. 

The Chocolatine:

As well as the chocolate chip cookie, I also enjoyed the chocolatine! The chocolatine was flaky and sweet. Although it is a vegan dessert, there was a delicious buttery flavor throughout the chocolatine that gave it the greasy and moist texture that a classic chocolatine should have. Each bite was tender with a crisp bite from the tarte chocolate inside. The fluffy pastry perfectly complemented the tangy and bittersweet chocolate!
