Sister Jean Is The Source Of Loyola-Chicago Success

Loyola-Chicago has become a household name in College Basketball and in March. The entire nation fell in love with the cinderella story of Loyola-Chicago back in 2018, when this team was an #11 seed in March Madness. They made it all the way to the Final Four, tying 3 other teams for worst seed to make the Final Four at 11. Along with Loyola-Chicago, the entire nation fell in love with their #1 supporter, Sister Jean.

Sister Jean is the chaplain for the Loyola Ramblers and sister of the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. I am a Catholic man myself, so I have a huge soft spot for Sister Jean. The Sister is the source of the Ramblers’ success. We talk about God working through people, the Lord Himself does good work through Sister Jean. There is a divine power within this team, and the Sister is the source.

Her pre-game prayer is evidence of this. The full prayer provided by ESPN:

“As we play the Fighting Illini, we ask for special help to overcome this team and get a great win,” she said. “We hope to score early and make our opponents nervous. We have a great opportunity to convert rebounds as this team makes about 50% of layups and 30% of its 3 points. Our defense can take care of that.”

I’ve heard pre-game prayers before, but this one is unique as they come. She came prepared with the stats for God, she knew what she was asking for and God provided. They take down #1 seed Illinois with this. Sister Jean may not have that much time left on Earth being that she’s 102-years-old, but her spirit will last forever with Loyola-Chicago. There’s a couple of things I take to the heart being a Catholic man. 1. You don’t pray for rain and not get your garden ready for rain. 2. Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

If you believe that, who’s going to stop this team?
