The 2021 MLB trade deadline is approaching and contenders and pretenders have started to emerge. This is the time when teams looking to make World Series pushes trade prospects and bolster their rosters to go all-in on a postseason run, but which teams are the best investments before the deadline?
There are about five people in the world who can honestly say they predicted the Red Sox would be in first place with a month left in June, Nearly everyone predicted that the Red Sox would be trade deadline sellers, but they are contenders and could bring in a quality starting pitcher to bolster their rotation. A big bat like Nelson Cruz of the Twins would also be a nice addition for the Red Sox come October.
The New York Yankees are currently five and a half games back of their Boston rivals, but their championship-or-bust window necessitates that they pursue a starting pitcher to help their struggling rotation – after consistently needing help in their rotation for the last few years, the time has come to pull the trigger. Although the Yankees are the second most expensive MLB team on Simbull prior to the trade deadline, the team is still cheap compared to NFL teams.
The Mets looked like they had the best rotation in the league in March, but this team is now in dire need of more quality starting pitching. Noah Syndergaard and Carlos Carrasco remain on the injured list with no real time frame for a return, so the Mets need a quality starting pitcher to keep themselves in first place through September.
