SimBull 2021 CFB Full Team Breakdown: Washington State Cougars

Welcome to Vendetta’s SimBull CFB full team breakdowns, where the writers from Vendetta Sports Media will be analyzing all the Power 5 college football programs for their share value on SimBull. This edition looks at the NC State Wolfpack.

2020 Record: 1-3 (1-3 Pac-12)

2021 Projected Win Total (via William Hill Sportsbook): O/U 6 Wins

On the Field

Head coach Nick Rolovich is in his second season with the Cougars program, and this looks like another rebuilding year. Quarterback Jarrett Guarantano transferred in from Tennessee, but he went out with an injured hand in the season opener. The Cougars then turned to last year’s starter, sophomore Jayden de Laura. He looked solid, but de Laura sustained an injury of his own after leading the Cougars to a 14-0 lead over USC. They would go on to surrender 45 unanswered points after de Laura went down. The two quarterbacks left on the depth chart are both freshmen. Running back Max Borghi has anchored the backfield, and the receivers have also been serviceable, but the overall production hasn’t come together quite yet – the quarterback situation certainly isn’t helping.

Returning 10 of 11 starters, the Cougars defense was expected to be much improved from last year. After giving up at least 420 total yards in each of their first three games, that prediction looks to be a pipe dream. However, Wazzu fans can have some optimism for the future of the program. Rolovich took over a so-so Hawaii team and led them to a 10-win season. He’ll need to step up his recruiting a bit, but he can build a winning football team.

In the Market

The share price for SimWSU-FB currently sits at $24.73. This price ranks second to last among the 12 Pac-12 programs and 61st of the 65 Power Five schools. This is likely a safe stock to hold, but do not expect immediate returns. For potential investors, this ultimately comes down to whether or not they trust Rolovich based on his limited (albeit positive) track record with Hawaii.
