Samoa Joe is perhaps one of AEW’s biggest stars right now. But there is a huge interest within WWE to see him return.
There has been low-level discussions within WWE, adjacent to the CM Punk situation, about current ROH World TV Champion Samoa Joe.
Any move in the immediate future can be considered an impossibility, with Joe currently signed to AEW. But it’s been said that he is a situation constantly under monitor, and he only made a stronger case for himself with higher-ups following All In–both for his backstage and in-ring presence. Furthermore, there is a belief that he could be positioned in the main event under the creative direction of Triple H.
Samoa Joe wrestled CM Punk in what seems to be Punk’s final outing in the promotion, following his departure. But the match was in jeopardy due to Punk’s altercation with Jack Perry mere moments earlier. Dave Meltzer wrote in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Joe was not only furious with the situation, but he made sure that Punk followed through with the match. He was subsequently praised as being a real leader.
The same, it seems, can be said for those watching on from WWE. As more details emerged throughout last week, the discussion grew to include the many parties involved in some way in the situation. One of the most prominent being Joe’s handling of not only the backstage incident, but wrestling a “stand out” match to open such a huge show.
As said, there has by no means been any tangible belief that he would be likely to leave AEW any time soon. However, it’s been made clear over the past week that there is a “hope” and “significant interest” that he will one day return.
