If the Jason Robertson trade rumors tell you anything, it’s that the Dallas Stars are mulling over serious changes. I’d argue looking at Pete DeBoer may be the first place that Jim Nill wants to explore. Apparently, DeBoer and goalie Jake Oettinger haven’t spoken since the idiotic pull job that happened in the playoffs.
If you have been living under a rock, let me catch you up to speed real quick.
The Stars were eliminated in 5 games during the Western Conference Finals. Jake Oettinger was pulled in the first period for backup journeyman Casey DeSmith.
It was a total panic move, and everybody with a brain knows it. It’s bad enough that the pull was a panic move. It’s far worse that the two sides haven’t spoken since.
By the way, the players have started to turn on DeBoer. This drama doesn’t appear to be going away.
DeBoer, 56, has just one year remaining on his contract. He’s never won a Stanley Cup, but has never lost a Game 7. He’s a very good coach, but a change may have to be made if no accountability is taken on this matter. Let’s be real about it. Oettinger is your franchise goalie. He’s going to outlive DeBoer through this mess. If those two sides don’t get on the same page heading into next season, a coaching change absolutely needs to be made. Frankly, I think it’s insane DeBoer didn’t talk to him, but I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. Most of these people in positions of power don’t understand anything about leadership, and that’s where this whole thing boils down to.
