Should The Red Sox Push To Sign Max Fried?

Should The Red Sox Push To Sign Max Fried?

Craig Breslow stinks at his job. It’s not really deniable and honestly, after this happened, Red Sox ownership should be begging me to run the team. By the way, even Breslow admits that he’s failed at his job thus far. The sad part is he somehow has a chance to make it right after Chaim Bloom stock piled a lot of young talent who is about to emerge at the MLB level. It’s a matter of if he’s smart enough to top it off with the right veteran talent on top. Max Fried sure makes a lot of sense…

Kids and pitching win. That’s the formula every successful modern day baseball team needs. The Sox have the kids part of the equation. Their farm system is loaded with ready-made impact guys. The pitching part is where Boston lacks and right now they get by with Andrew Bailey’s smoke and mirrors.

There is no ace on this Red Sox pitching staff. Entering the offseason, right now it features Bello, Crawford, and Houck. That’s it. Nick Pivetta is a free agent and Lucas Giolito is hurt but is expected to return. Richard Fitts is a young guy who can serve as a AAA / MLB swing option for the 2025 season. Regardless, Boston is missing a horse at the top of the rotation. If that black hole isn’t solved, this Sox team really can’t be taken seriously.

Fried, 30, certainly fits in nicely in that potential rotation. A dominant left who has a career ERA of 3.07 during his eight years at the MLB level. I’d argue the Sox should then supplement that with a return of Nathan Eovaldi… but that’s a story for another day.

At some point, Boston can’t continue to miss out on starting pitching. It would be a mistake to trade away valuable prospects because they can’t pony up the money. Yoshinobu Yamamoto should have been that guy last year. By the way, it also seems like Boston could have the inside track on recruiting Fried to make Fenway Park home.

Make it happen. No excuses. Breslow was brought to the team to make the tough decision that Bloom couldn’t. If that’s not going to happen… what was the point in firing Bloom?
