Should Lane Kiffin Bolt Ole Miss For Florida?

If offered, should Lane Kiffin bolt Ole Miss for the Florida job? How realistic is it that Kiffin becomes the next head coach of the Gators? (Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports)

Should Lane Kiffin Bolt Ole Miss For Florida?

Billy Napier is a dead man walking. Any given day now that dead corpse could be walking the plank. It’s really a matter of who Florida is going to hire next to replace him. When there’s smoke there’s fire and it sure feels like if the Gators have it their way, Lane Kiffin will become their next head.

It’s obviously not that simple…

A: Would Kiffin really leave Ole Miss for Florida?

B: If so, how could Florida even pull it off?

Those two subtopics are ones worth discussing:

I’m not going to speak for Kiffin, but it makes all the sense in the world for him to make this move. Let’s not forget that there was a lot of flirting going on when the Auburn job came open. That never happened, but there was obviously something to the story.

No offense to Ole Miss, but it’s just not a tier-one job. It’s a build it up program in the SEC to win during the window. Georgia can win titles and be good every year. So can Florida. They just have too many athletes in state and we’ve seen coaches in the past win multiple National Titles there. All it really takes is the right here again.

It’s really a matter of how Florida can pull it off. Kiffin isn’t going to leave in the middle of the college football playoff. Hiring him becomes a challenge given the structure of the calendar and trying to build a roster through recruiting and the transfer portal. It would almost take an interim coach to take over with the understanding that Kiffin would step in after the Ole Miss season concludes and having all of those things be on the same page undisclosed.

Good luck with all of that. Time will tell if it happens but it’s much easier said than done. With the obvious caveat being how long will the Ole Miss season actually last this year?

If Florida does hire Kiffin, they will have the support of former head coach, Dan Mullen. Apparently, the now ESPN TV analyst claims that he told the Gators to hire Kiffin over Napier the first time around.
