The wait is over. Shohei Ohtani has finally picked a team and the winner of the sweepstakes are the Los Angeles Dodgers. Ohtani will sign a $700 million contract with the Dodgers. A monumental day in baseball that everybody has been waiting for. One that has a bunch of ripple effects across the rest of the sport.
Shohei Ohtani reported the news himself after posting the decision on Instagram:
Jeff Passan at ESPN was first on the contract number:
Ohtani, 29, has a career batting line of .274/.366/.556. The Japanese superstar will not pitch next year after undergoing Tommy John surgery. Ohtani’s bat, of course, offers plenty of value by itself. Last year Ohtani blasted 44 home runs and posted an OPS+ of 184. He changes the – lineup overnight.
However, his two-way ability is exactly why this price tag is so high. Ohtani is expected to join the Dodgers rotation for the 2025 season. Ohtani sports a career ERA of 3.01 with an 11.4 K per 9 rate. Ohtani truly is a unicorn that the sport may never see again.
It was pretty clear the Blue Jays were all in here. I explained as much that can be seen in the embed or by clicking this link here. The problem is the took themselves out of the Juan Soto sweepstakes by waiting this one out. Now he’s on the Yankees instead. A swing and a miss by that group.
Quickly before we close, I just want to point out and mention that we here at Vendetta remained professional about this. Credit to us for never posting rumors that weren’t true. You know exactly what I’m talking about.
