The City of Los Angeles has officially announced that May 17th will now be known as ‘Shohei Ohtani Day.’
Ohtani only signed with the Dodgers a few months ago and is already leaving his mark on the city.
“Thank you very much to the L.A. City Council,” Ohtani said during the ceremony. “I appreciate you recognizing me on this day. I want to thank the Dodger organization as well and all the fans.”
In 44 games this season with the Dodgers, Ohtani has a batting average of .360 for 12 home runs and 30 RBIs.
The Dodgers recently held their Shohei Ohtani bobblehead night at Dodger Stadium, with the game having a league season-high attendance record at 53,527.
“Simply put, Shohei has become part of the fabric of Los Angeles,” said Stan Kasten, President and CEO, Los Angeles Dodgers. “Since becoming a member of the Dodger family in December, Shohei has been everything we’ve hoped for and more. We are grateful for his accomplishments on the field, his warmth in the clubhouse and his character in all respects – and we congratulate him on this well-deserved honor.”
Ohtani has also been in some controversy over the gambling issues of his interpreter Ippei Mizuhara. There has been some speculation that Ohtani is behind the gambling issues, with Mizuhara being the fallback for the Japanese superstar.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are currently 29-17 on the season despite the early season performances and the behind-the-scenes controversies.
The Dodgers currently rank 3rd in the recent Vendetta baseball power ranking. Check out our story to see which teams rank above them!!!!
