Do the Red Sox have a chance to sign Shohei Ohtani? It sounds like Ohtani is very intrigued by the possibility of playing in Boston. Read why here! (Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports)

Shohei Ohtani Apparently Loves Boston

Are the Red Sox stealth suitors in the Shohei Ohtani sweepstakes? It’s starting to feel like they have more and more of a chance to land him. If Ohtani does plan to leave the West Coast, it could be for Boston.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan (don’t click the link it’s behind a paywall) recently wrote a story about where things stand with Ohtani heading into the offseason. He says that Ohtani is very much intrigued by the possibility of playing for the Sox.

“[Ohtani] loves visiting Boston and has a fondness for Fenway Park,” Passan wrote.

Ohtani is also repped by New Balance. They’re also headquartered in Boston.

Passan added: “The Dodgers, Rangers and Boston Red Sox all are expected to be in the Ohtani sweepstakes, according to sources. And though the industry’s overwhelming expectation is that he winds up with the Dodgers, that line of thinking is perhaps presumptive.”

For those that want a deep dive look into the Red Sox offseason, feel free to click the embed of this link here. I just don’t see how Ohtani fits on this team. He can only DH next year because of elbow surgery. The Sox already have their DH in place with Masataka Yoshida and we learned last year he can’t play the outfield. I just don’t see how it makes any sense to have two DHs. Especially at that dollar.

The Sox need pitching more than anything. How many more years do they think Ohtani can pitch for them? That should be the real question for if the team signs him.
