Senators Forfeit First Round Pick For Role In Failed Dadonov Trade
Pierre Dorion was fired by the Senators today. Dorion was a terrible general manager, but this next story is likely the straw that broke the camel’s back. The Ottawa Senators are being stripped of a first round pick for their involvement in the failed Evgenii Dadonov trade.
TSN’s Darren Dreger was the first to report the news.
This is basically what you need to know. Let’s take you back to March 2022. The VGK had to dump Evgenii Dadonov for cap reasons. Vegas sent Dadonov to Anaheim along with a second round pick for John Moore and Ryan Kesler. That trade did not happen because the Ducks were on Dadonov’s no-trade list. Vegas just didn’t know about it as the original contract Dadonov signed was with the Senators. Ottawa did not disclose that information to Vegas.
Vegas was actually the one that reported the issue to the league office as they were unsure why they couldn’t send Dadonov to Anaheim. It turns out the Senators didn’t do their job disclosing all of the information on the original Dadonov contract.
“We appreciate the league’s diligence on this matter and respect the decision,” the Golden Knights said Wednesday in a statement.
Vegas eventually found another taker sending Dadonov to Montreal for the Shea Weber contract. The second version of the trade was actually better for the VGK, but we don’t need to talk about this. It’s further proof that Dorion was totally incompetent and needed to be fired. That guy should never run another NHL team again.
