Sean McVay To Return To Rams For 2024 Season

Head coach Sean McVay is not done with the Los Angeles Rams … not yet, at least. The Super Bowl winner promised he would return to Los Angeles for the 2024 season when asked by radio host J.B. Long Tuesday.

After reaching the mountaintop in February of 2022, speculation of a move into television has been nonstop. He was reportedly flirting with the idea as recently as last winter.

However, there are certainly some breadcrumbs you could find along the way. The 37-year-old will soon be 38 later this month. McVay and his wife welcomed their first child back in October; his 69-48-1 career record means he could pass John Robinson (75-68) for the most regular season wins in team history next season.

Currently, LA has a 9-7 record on the season and looks set to be the No. 6 seed in the NFC playoffs. If they started today, it would be a storybook matchup as veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford would return to Detroit against his former team in the 3-seeded Lions.

Things could change in Week 18, but 2023 has been a very nice bounce-back for Los Angeles after their disappointing Super Bowl defense last year.

When Will The Guard Change?

One would have to think that once McVay retires, the winds of change will blow strongly within the Rams organization. Future Hall-of-Famer Aaron Donald, 32, has already made it clear that he wouldn’t play if McVay isn’t the coach. That’s to go with Cooper Kupp at 30, and the aforementioned Stafford at 35-years-old. All three of them could likely consider retirement once their head coach steps away.

However, it will not be the end of the world when that happens. One of the reasons for LA’s success is their youth revolution. Rookie Puka Nacua and second-year running back Kyren Williams have been sensational; Byron Young is another rookie who has flourished this year with seven sacks.

Despite their willingness to trade their draft picks, the Rams front office is consistently great at drafting and developing, so it’s not hyperbole to say McVay will leave this team much better than he found it once the day comes.

Sean McVay is going to continue coaching into 2024, something that all football fans should be happy about. The offensive guru has earned every bit of success so far and looks set to accomplish even more.
