Anthony Richardson’s pro day performance should make the Seahawks seriously consider trading up in the draft for him.
Six of the first seven picks in this year’s NFL draft are owned by teams potentially looking to draft a quarterback. Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray is set to make $39 million next season, making Arizona the team least likely to be looking for a quarterback with their third overall pick.
The Seahawks have the ammo to pull off a potential massive draft day trade with Arizona in order to draft a quarterback, largely due to the Russell Wilson trade last offseason with the Broncos. Trading from the fifth to third overall pick would also allow the Seahawks to leapfrog quarterback-needy Indianapolis. With Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud being projected as the first two overall picks, the Seahawks should trade up to secure Richardson.
After a career resurrection last year, quarterback Geno Smith signed a team-friendly contract earlier in the month. The contract is for three years, and worth up to $75 million. As a former career backup, Smith would be the perfect mentor to help Richardson mature until he is ready to take over the team. While the Seahawks trade rumors are still only speculation, Arizona should receive multiple trade proposals on draft day.
Richardson balled out during his pro day in Gainesville Thursday. Already a projected first round draft pick, Richardson’s stock has risen even further after his stellar pro day performance. The former Florida Gators quarterback demonstrated his arm talent and athletic ability the entire workout.
Four quarterbacks in this years draft are expected to be taken within the first five to seven draft picks. The best situation for any of the four quarterbacks is Seattle. The only team of the group who made the playoffs. Among the group of Young, Stroud, Will Levis, and Richardson, people considered the Gator the dark horse. The Seahawks trading up in the draft will allow them to not have depend on their guy falling to them at the fifth.
