Sam Reinhart Inks 8-Year Extension With Panthers

Sam Reinhart isn’t going anywhere. After winning a Stanley Cup with the Panthers, it felt like only a matter of time before the two sides came to an agreement on a contract extension. At the 11th hour, Reinhart inked an eight-year deal to stay in South Florida.

Reinhart will now carry an $8.625 million AAV for his new contract. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman was the first to report the news:

Reinhart, 28, probably took a discount for what he could have gotten on the open market. The no-state tax factor in Florida definitely helps that. There was rumblings that Reinhart could have gotten somewhere in the $11 million per year range. At the end of the day, Reinhart takes less than what Sasha Barkov is making, which makes sense from an organizational standpoint.

It was a career year for Reinhart who cashes in at a perfect time. The former Sabres draft pick scored a career high 57 goals, which doesn’t include the game winner in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals. Reino notched 94 points this year after posting 67 the year prior.

Reinhart is a damn good player and he’s incredibly smart. Plus, he gets to play with Barkov and you can’t put a price tag on that.

The Panthers will still have room to add more after getting this deal done. They have a ton of impending free agents hitting the market including Brandon Montour. Florida will now likely shift their focus to adding to the blue line and maybe finding a replacement for Vladimir Tarasenko.
