The Sabres Are Shopping Dylan Cozens?

The Sabres signed Dylan Cozens to a lucrative extension at the start of 2023. With Buffalo on track to miss the playoffs for a 14th straight season, it appears the club is considering any and all options… including trading Cozens.

A report surfaced that teams are calling on Cozens and the Sabres aren’t exactly hanging up the phone.

VIA Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman’s 32 Thoughts:

“7. Alright, some other stuff: Buffalo is getting calls on Dylan Cozens. This would terrify me if I were the Sabres, vultures circling overhead while player and team struggle. Right-shot centre, 23 years old, two years removed from a 30-goal season. He’s also signed for five more seasons at a $7.1M AAV, helping his value. I would be very, very careful with this because he’s legitimately wanted.”

Cozens, 23, has 13 points in 30 games this year but has been on a weird decline since his breakout 31 goal season back in 2022-23. He’s still very young and getting out of Buffalo could be exactly what he needs to get back to that player.

I just don’t know how you pull the trigger on this kind of trade if you’re the Sabres. I’m not saying Cozens is in the class of Jack Eichel and Sam Reinhart, but Buffalo clearly got robbed on both of those deals. If the Sabres even consider moving Cozens, they better get a haul back.

At some point, maybe it’s time to fire Kevyn Adams. How many cracks at the apple are you going to give this guy and what exactly has he accomplished during his time there? It’s a fascinating story to follow as we inch closer to the deadline.

We develop high draft picks so that they can become stars for someone else! Because right now… that’s exactly what they’re doing.
