Ryan O’Hearn Thanks Craig Breslow for Trading Rafael Devers

The Boston Red Sox trading Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants shocked many people in and around baseball. For some players, the move was a welcome sight. In an interview with Foul Territory, Baltimore Orioles DH/1B Ryan O’Hearn thanked Red Sox Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow for shipping Devers out.

Host Scott Braun opened by asking O’Hearn if he was excited to see Devers traded:

“Are you the most excited person in baseball that Rafael Devers got traded to the Giants? Because he is out of your damn division, [and] you like winning games, and you know, All-Star appearances would be cool. You’re now the leading vote-getter for the DH spot. How are you doing?”

O’Hearn responded:

“Yeah, I just want to shout out Craig Breslow real quick. Appreciate you, man.”

Ryan O’Hearn: 2025 MLB All-Star?

O’Hearn is in the midst of a career year with Baltimore. Through 60 games, he is hitting .306 with 10 home runs, 27 RBI, and a .878 OPS. The 2025 MLB All-Star Game will be the 31-year-old’s first career All-Star appearance if he is ultimately selected.

Generally speaking, if players from other teams in your division are thanking you for doing something, you probably didn’t do a good thing. O’Hearn’s comments were partially in the context of All-Star voting, but reports have also surfaced that the New York Yankees are celebrating Devers’ departure from the AL East. Not a great look for Craig Breslow.
