Russell Wilson responds to Eli Manning with hilarious comeback

Russell Wilson has responded to Eli Manning’s diss from Monday’s Manningcast.

During the game between the Giants and Cowboys, Manning took a shot at Wilson and his hefty contract extension of $245 million. Referencing the snooze fest of a game Sunday night between the Broncos and 49ers, Manning said, “They should’ve paid that punter 235 million instead of Russell.”

In a game where the final score was 11-10 and punter Corliss Waitman punted the ball a total of 10 times, earning himself AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors, Manning was not necessarily wrong.

Wilson responded to Manning’s diss in a press conference saying, “You talking about Chad Powers? I’m 3-0 against Chad Powers,” referencing Manning going undercover as “Chad Powers” in a recent viral video of him trying out for Penn State’s football team. Wilson’s response to the diss was both lighthearted and funny, showing no anger towards Manning for what he said Monday night. Wilson responded in a way that both gets back at Manning, while also keeping the situation from escalating any further.

While Wilson joked about being undefeated against Manning in his career, he has been criticized of late due to his slow start with his new team. After being acquired in a trade with the Seahawks, Wilson has underperformed to begin the year. Although the Broncos are 2-1, Wilson has a lackluster two touchdowns in three games in 2022. Many have chalked this up to him adjusting to a new offense. Others have blamed it on the questionable coaching decisions made so far by head coach Nathaniel Hackett.

The exact reasons behind Wilson’s slow start are neither here nor there. Wilson’s response to Manning, however, is one that illustrates his likability. The so-called “beef” between Manning and Wilson has been both hilarious and lighthearted.
