The Rockets Need To Stop Shooting 3s

Man, I love being right. If you think this Rockets team is good, I have news for you. Just because you win games, doesn’t necessarily mean you’re a good team. I knew the Rockets would get in on just talent alone. But for the regular season, you’re just playing to get to the playoffs and for seeding, nothing else. It’s also obvious that teams do not have as much time to scout and really gameplan for games because there’s 82 of them.

So the Rockets winning games on talent alone, doesn’t make them good, just talented. I even said that this team would make the playoffs even though the Russell Westbrook and James Harden duo wouldn’t work. If you think this duo is working, you clearly haven’t been watching enough. I said this before the season started and on the first episode of the ChicksTape basketball podcast. It’s not hard to see. 

Next, I wrote about their defensive woes. They’re one of the worst defensive teams this year. They have improved since that article but not by much. In defensive rating, they are ranked 15th for the time being, so they have improved in that aspect. However, they rank 24th in points allowed in the paint at 51.1 PPG, 21st in 2nd Chance points at 13.7, and 25th in points off turnovers at 18.3. So, you get my point, their defense is still bad and it’s showing.

Now, they need to stop shooting 3s. Despite that usually being their offense, they are one of the worst in the league at shooting 3s. They rank 20th in 3P% with 34.6%. I also check the Rockets individual players, NONE of them average more than 40% shooting from 3. That’s certainly not ideal for a team that relies so much on shooting 3s. You know they rely on shooting 3s because they are 1st in 3 point attempts at 43. What’s even more bizarre is that they average 47.7 2 point shots. Meaning they almost AVERAGE as many 3 point attempts as they do 2 point attempts. Their 47.7 2 point attempts are LAST in the league.

To even add more insult to injury, they have the 2nd highest 2 point % in the league at 55.3% So, the obvious solution here is, STOP SHOOTING 3s. This team is running out of time to turn it around, but I don’t feel any sympathy. James Harden fans, Russell Westbrook fans, and Rockets fans, in general, are all obnoxious. They deserve this after all the shit they talked. If you’re not freaking out at how bad this Rockets team actually is, it’s time to start.
