We lost a good one today. Larry Allen, arguably one of the best offensive linemen in NFL history, has tragically passed away today.
The Cowboys released this statement regarding the news of Allen.
Allen, 52, died while vacationing in Mexico with his family. The former second round of the 1994 NFL Draft out of Sonoma State in California will go down as one of the best players in the history of the Cowboys. Allen was inducted into the Hall of Fame back in 2013 as a first ballot member. He also was part of the NFL’s All-Decade team 1990s and 2000s. Allen played mostly guard but he also thrived at tackle when called upon there too.
The younger generation has no idea how insane Allen was back in the day. The dude was a house and was uber athletic. Allen played 12 of his 14 years for the Cowboys and made 11 Pro Bowls and seven All Pro Teams. He was also the strongest man in the entire NFL and I’m not sure it’s arguable.
Emmitt Smith is the NFL’s All-Time leading rusher and I’m not sure it happens without Allen paving the way. The guy was a total menace and there might not ever be another player like him. I’m not overly old so it’s worth mentioning that Allen was unstoppable in Madden too.
We lost a legend today. RIP Larry Allen. The real fans of the NFL should do everything in their power to honor this man today.
