CM Punk allegedly got into another backstage scuffle and there were claims he’s been suspended, but those reports might have been premature.
Punk’s backstage brawl with Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks infamously broke the news cycle last year. All parties involved were suspended and CM Punk’s future in the promotion was cast into doubt. But by June this year, The Second City returned and became the face of the new show, AEW Collision.
Sadly, his status with the promotion has yet again been cast into doubt, after getting into a brawl with Jack Perry, reports have since claimed that both men have been suspended.
However, reports on what really happened and the aftermath are already beginning to conflict. It was initially claimed that CM Punk nearly got into a fight with Miro after his tussle with Perry. Since then, these claims have been debunked by multiple sources, which now state that the two were simply playfully bantering. On the matter of Jack Perry and Punk’s suspensions, Sean Sapp Ross reported on Fightful Select (subscription required) that The Second City Saint hasn’t been informed about any suspensions.
Due to how quickly the story seems to be developing, the narrative might change before AEW Dynamite airs later tonight. Unfortunately for fans of CM Punk, there is always the possibility that his suspension is still pending and that it might still happen.
Outside of his obligations to AEW, CM Punk has been keeping himself busy. He recently starred in an episode of Mayans M.C. during its final season and does commentary for Cage Fury Fighting Championship.
CFFC has now moved its CFFC 123 and CFFC 124 shows to Sept. 1 and 2, and announced that Punk will be doing commentary on both episodes. Because of this, it seems like an AEW Collision appearance will be out of the question–suspension or not.
For any hoping that Punk could have shown up at AEW Dynamite, it seems like he’s already in Las Vegas, Nev., where he’ll be the recipient of the Iron Mike Mazurki Award. While his CFFC obligations were likely last minute, the award show was a long-term plan.
If CM Punk does miss both Dynamite and Collision, this week’s All Out pay-per-view will be the real test beyond reports on whether he’s suspended or not.
