Report: New Mario Baseball Game In Development

Sports games have been some of the most memorable installments in the Mario Brothers franchise. Zippo Speaks, a Nintendo insider who has leaked accurate information in the past, has reported a new Mario sports game is in development at Nintendo. More likely than not, this new project will be another installment of Mario Baseball. Mario and company have not had a baseball game since 2008 when Mario Super Sluggers was released on the Nintendo Wii. Zippo’s report reads:

“In today’s ‘no s***’ news, Nintendo is preparing a brand new Mario Sports game, this time being developed by Bandai Namco and Now Entertainment. This is very likely to be a new installment in the Mario Baseball series, which hasn’t seen a new entry since 2008’s Mario Super Sluggers, though baseball did appear in Mario Sports Superstars for the 3DS in 2017.”

There are already a few sports titles available for the Nintendo Switch. With Mario Golf: Super Rush, Mario Tennis Aces, and Mario Strikers: Battle League in the Switch catalog, it makes sense that getting Mario and company back on the diamond is next.

The report also suggests that Pac-Man will be available as a playable character. Nintendo has not yet confirmed details of the report. Although many expected news of the new baseball game at February’s Nintendo Direct presentation, no such announcement was made. However, it’s entirely possible confirmation for Mario Baseball will come later this year. Alternatively, the game could be delayed or cancelled, assuming the rumors are true in the first place. It may be a while before Mario Baseball comes to fruition, but it seems like it’s on the way.
