Report: Kevin Durant does not want to be traded to Golden State, reunion ‘highly unlikely’

Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant does not want to play for the Golden State Warriors and that a reunion is now “highly unlikely,” Suns insider John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM Phoenix first reported Wednesday, roughly 24 hours ahead of the 2024-25 NBA Trade Deadline.

Here is the latest. It is highly unlikely now that the Suns will trade Kevin Durant to Golden State. KD does not want to play for the Warriors he wants to stay in Phoenix. This trade had a lot of momentum in the last 24 hours but that momentum is lost.

This report comes after steam picked up between the two sides over the last 24-48 hours. It was reported Tuesday evening that the Warriors were “serious” regarding a Durant reunion, but talks reportedly fizzled out between the two sides paired with Durant’s disinterest in a return.

The 36-year-old helped the franchise win two NBA Titles from 2016-19, winning two Finals MVPs. While it would have been a fun reunion, the Warriors wouldn’t likely go anywhere with Durant.

Through 39 games this year, he’s averaging 26.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game, shooting 52.4 percent from the floor, 39.8 percent from 3-point range and 82.7 percent from the free-throw line. He’s still an elite shotmaker, even at 36.

It remains unclear whether or not Durant wants to be traded away from Phoenix, who acquired him one night ahead of the deadline in 2022-23. Gambadoro’s tweet above suggests that he wants to stay in Phoenix, but Marc Stein later in the day indicated that he was hoping Phoenix would find another spot for him before the 3 p.m. EST deadline Thursday.

Nevertheless, this situation remains fluid. But all we do know is that Durant is not heading back to Golden State, for what it’s worth.
