With any rookie quarterback, you just want to see some growth and or some promising plays over the course of the season. For first round pick, Dwayne Haskins, his first few starts in the NFL were rough. Over Haskins’ first 6 games, he threw 6 INTs and 2 TDs. Lately, Haskins has been much, much better. 5 touchdowns and 1 pick over his last 3 starts. Haskins is showing growth and that’s all you ask out of a rookie.

Washington’s offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell is proud of how Haskins has improved over the season:

“I think [his growth] was ongoing all the way up until his last snap there when he got hurt there at the start of the second half the other day,” O’Connell said on Friday, via team transcript. “I was so proud of him.”

Given the way the Skins have handled Haskins, he’s been about as expected. Rollercoaster games big highs and lows. He had no notice and was thrust into the Giants game and struggled. No surprise. Jay Gruden was fired midseason. The talent on the roster isn’t outstanding either.

I still don’t know good Haskins is. From what we have seen, I think Haskins can become a quality starter. Is he good enough to get the elite quarterback money? That remains to be seen. Still, this is a guy that threw 50 touchdown passes in a season in the Big 10. That’s not easy to do.

We also have no idea who the coach of the Skins will be either. Will they keep Bill Callahan? Will they promote Kevin O’Connell? Could Urban Meyer be an option? Whoever the Redskins pick, it will impact the former Buckeyes career.
