The RG3 era is officially over in Washington!
ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting Robert Griffin III is headed elsewhere after the team informed him of his release. This move of course is something that has been a long time coming after going the entire 2015 season without playing.
This is a move that the Redskins had to make before March 9th or his $16.15 million 5th year option would have been fully guaranteed. Griffin was Washington’s third string quarterback all season and only found himself active for one game. The only reason RG3 was on the roster this long is because the team was hoping to find a trade partner. In the end the team was unable to recoup any compensation for him after the team coughed up 3 first round picks and 2 second round picks in the 2012 draft to acquire RG3 for the Rams 2nd overall pick.
The former 2012 offensive rookie of the year has taken quite a fall since his playing days under Mike Shanahan. Griffin has been rumored to be wanted an opportunity to play for one of the Texas teams (Cowboys & Texans). All indications suggest RG3 wants an opportunity to start elsewhere and will choose his next destination carefully.
