The Red Sox have a Trevor Story problem… and it’s not one of those problems where it’s somehow a blessing in disguise sort of thing. The guy just sucks and they’re running out of solutions on how to proceed.
Right now, the plan is to “disconnect” Story from the team with the hope that somehow works…
“Disconnect him today. Maybe tomorrow. And keep working,” Cora said Sunday regarding his plan for Story. “It’s not a lack of working. It’s been a lot. And maybe just kind like back up and just watch the game from a different perspective.”
“Just relax and clear your mind,” Cora said. “Hopefully that benefits him.”
Rip.
The.
Bandaid.
Off.
Sorry, not sorry, but Story isn’t turning this thing around. He’s totally cooked and washed up. It’s not hard to see.
Story, 32, is hitting .222 with six homers and an OPS+ of 66 through 52 games. Outside of being a capable option defensively, he brings almost nothing to the table. This contract is a disaster, and it’s time to stop lying about it.
Here’s what needs to happen. Kristian Campbell is your second baseman. Marcelo Mayer is your third baseman. Put Rafael Devers back where he belongs at third base and or maybe even a shift to first base. Maybe even think about calling up Blaze Jordan to give him a run at first base. David Hamilton is already there as your speed option. We’re crunched for 40-man roster spots, and finding a new home for Story shouldn’t be out of the equation.
