The Red Sox Are Looking For Someone To Babysit Craig Breslow

The Red Sox could be where the Tigers are right now but Craig Breslow stinks at his job. Breslow put together one of the worst trade deadlines ever (something I called him out for at the time. No hindsight bias needed) and now Boston is looking for a babysitter for the lead baseball executive.

The Red Sox are doing what every bad organization does. Breslow stinks at what he does but they can’t fire him after just one year… so they’re likely going to promote him and hire a general manager to actually run the team.

VIA Mass Live:

Breslow still plans to hire a No. 2 — likely with the general manager title — as he begins his second offseason as Boston’s chief baseball officer. It’s not a certainty that the hire will come before Opening Day but seems reasonable to expect the Red Sox to assess potential candidates in the coming weeks, when front office types around baseball are expected to move.

“It’s hard to say top of the list, but it’s certainly something I’ll shift some attention to,” said Breslow, who previously said he wouldn’t hold a search during the regular season. “I’ve got a better understanding of our front office landscape, of my needs and experiences, and also inexperiences and blind spots. At the same time, we’ve all been quite busy with the season in front of us and wanted to make sure we gave that our due attention. Wouldn’t want to put a timeline on it but it’s something I would anticipate picking up soon.”

The Red Sox can’t be taken seriously until they start acting like a big market club again. That’s really all that needs to be said. Sam Kennedy should be ashamed of himself and it’s a disgrace they were miles under the tax. The only thing fans can hope for is that the new GM forces ownership to actually attempt to win baseball games rather than brag about the new prospects on the way.
